The French National Assembly removed article 3 from the 2027 finance bill, which would have reduced retirees’ tax abatement from 4,439 to 3,000 euros, saving 1.4 billion euros out of the 5.5 billion euros requested from retirees. The majority of political groups, from the RN to LFI including socialists and communists, voted in favor of removal by 116 votes to 30. This measure would have affected approximately 4.6 million French retiree households, with a tax increase of up to 432 euros for an annual pension of 50,000 euros. However, the under-indexation of pensions above 1,260 euros per month remains in the text, representing approximately 4 billion euros in savings. The 24 crypto amendments in the bill have not yet been examined, while the final vote on the revenue section is scheduled for October 20.
