Brazilian Federal Police dismantled a major drug trafficking and money laundering network in Operation Commodity. The organization allegedly shipped approximately 6.5 metric tons of cocaine to European countries including France, Belgium, Germany, Slovenia, and Spain since 2021. The criminal proceeds were laundered through cryptocurrency brokers operating in the shadows of the digital asset ecosystem. Nine suspects were arrested, one was killed during a confrontation with police, and authorities executed 13 arrest warrants and 44 search-and-seizure warrants across multiple Brazilian states. Courts ordered asset freezes and seizures totaling approximately R$1 billion (about $196 million), including luxury goods, real estate, and assets of front companies. This operation is part of the broader Missao Redentor II initiative targeting organized crime, coming just weeks after Operation Exchange which targeted a separate $2 billion cryptocurrency laundering operation also linked to PCC.
