Boeing engineers union votes down contract, authorizes strikes

Approximately 17,000 engineers and technicians represented by SPEEA overwhelmingly rejected Boeing’s contract offers, with 64.25% of engineers and 71.87% of technicians voting against the proposals. Nearly 90% of members authorized a strike ahead of the October 6 contract expiration date. The proposed deals included wage increases of 29.4% to 31.9% over four years, but a 3% cap on inflation-linked raises was deemed insufficient. This marks the first full contract negotiation between SPEEA and Boeing in nearly 14 years, with the last SPEEA strike occurring in 2000 and lasting 40 days. A work stoppage could severely impact the certification timeline for the Boeing 737 MAX 10 and 777-9, both already behind schedule.
