On October 22, 2026, the Blockchain Association asked the leaders of both chambers of the US Congress to pass bipartisan tax legislation for digital assets. In a letter addressed to Mike Johnson, Hakeem Jeffries, John Thune and Chuck Schumer, the organization outlined ten principles, including an exemption for small transactions, taxation of transfers between personal wallets, an extension of wash sale rules and access to crypto in retirement accounts. The association, which represents more than 100 companies in the sector, says 67 million Americans use digital assets and has launched TaxClarityforAmerica.com to encourage constituents to contact their representatives. The House Ways and Means Committee approved the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act by a 38-5 vote, featuring a proposed $10 threshold tied to network fees, while the Senate introduced the ADAPT Act, but progress stalled during the election recess. The group is not endorsing a specific bill and wants the final legislation to include research and development credits as well as favorable tax treatment for mining and staking activities.
