Bitget’s North Korea-linked $352 million hack could drain 76% of its protection fund

Hackers stole $351.6 million from Bitget in an attack that occurred on September 24. Analysis of IP addresses and blockchain transactions shows similarities with techniques used by North Korean hacking groups, notably the Lazarus Group. The exchange’s protection fund, currently valued at $464 million, would be impacted to the tune of 76% in the event of a total loss. Withdrawals remain suspended during the security audit, with Bitget having enlisted Mandiant and SlowMist experts to investigate. The XRP token represents the most affected network in this breach, while cold wallets remained untouched.
