Bitcoin fell below $81,000 overnight on October 14-15, hitting a low of $80,444 before stabilizing around $80,800, down 3.5% over twenty-four hours. More than $1 billion in positions were liquidated in twenty-four hours, including nearly $485 million in a single hour after the $81,000 break, with bullish bets accounting for over 90% of losses. US inflation data released the same day came in at 3.7%, above the expected 3.6% and August’s 3.4%, reigniting expectations of monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve at its October 27-28 meeting, with the CME FedWatch tool now showing a 44 to 47% probability. The $80,000 level held but remains under close scrutiny as net outflows from US spot bitcoin ETFs continued, while BlackRock reported $7.9 billion in net inflows into its crypto products in the third quarter.
