Bitcoin Not Facing Immediate Quantum Threat, Coinbase CEO Says

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that quantum computing does not pose an immediate threat to Bitcoin, though he emphasized the need for the cryptocurrency industry to prepare for the eventual arrival of sufficiently powerful quantum computers. Coinbase announced the launch of the Bitcoin Security Consortium, backed by BlackRock, Fidelity Digital Assets, Block, Blockstream and Strategy, aimed at coordinating efforts to prepare the Bitcoin network. The exchange published a detailed roadmap outlining a quantum-resistant version of its key management system, PQ-CoreKMS. Experts estimate that a quantum computer capable of compromising Bitcoin would require millions of high-quality physical qubits, well beyond current capabilities.
