MARA Holdings, the largest publicly traded Bitcoin miner, has repurchased 1,292 BTC for approximately $100 million through the FalconX platform. This decision marks a reversal from its strategy over the past six months, during which the company had sold over 20,880 BTC ($1.5 billion) to finance its expansion into artificial intelligence and repay debt. The company now holds over 34,000 BTC in total, including 9,658 in operating wallets and over 25,000 in custody with Fidelity. This sudden purchase comes as the sector faces mounting pressure: in Q2 2026, the average cost of mining one BTC reached $75,500 against a Bitcoin price of $58,400, pushing the industry’s profitability below breakeven.
