Bitcoin and gold dropped within minutes of Friday’s US jobs report, after August payrolls came in at 162,000 against a consensus near 56,000. Revisions also surprised to the upside, with July revised from -23,000 to +21,000 and June from 20,000 to 31,000. Bitcoin fell 1.80% to around $79,860 while gold declined 1.75% to $4,376 per ounce. Long position liquidations reached $768.54 million over 24 hours, including $202 million in a single hour. The strong jobs data revived bets on a September Federal Reserve rate hike.
