Binance confirmed that a security breach compromised approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets, exceeding the $1.5 billion stolen from Bybit in 2025. The platform says customer funds are safe and that it will absorb the losses using its Secure Asset Fund for Users and corporate reserves, while temporarily suspending withdrawals. About $2.83 billion has been frozen with the help of blockchain partners and stablecoin issuers, although a substantial portion of the stolen funds may remain under the attackers’ control. The investigation points to a compromised engineer’s laptop and a sophisticated, multi-stage attack, with no evidence so far that wallet private keys were exposed. TRM Labs, Chainalysis and ZachXBT linked the incident to the North Korean TraderTraitor operation, but Binance has not confirmed the attribution and is continuing its investigation with law enforcement.
