The four largest hyperscalers (Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta) are collectively expected to invest approximately $735 billion in AI data center infrastructure in 2026. Goldman Sachs estimates global AI infrastructure capital expenditure could reach $1 trillion this year. Amazon leads with around $200 billion, followed by Alphabet ($175-205 billion) and Microsoft (over $120 billion). Projects worth more than $130 billion were blocked or delayed in Q1 2026 due to local community opposition over noise, water usage, and energy demands. This AI boom also impacts crypto mining operations, which compete for the same resources: cheap electricity, cooling capacity, and grid access.
