Big institutional money is split on Bitcoin’s next move as massive market bets shift

Leveraged funds increased their net short position in CME Bitcoin futures by 1,599 contracts during the week to Sept. 22, bringing their net short exposure to 7,953 contracts, while asset managers strengthened their net long position by 411 contracts to reach 3,171 contracts. Open interest in standard CME Bitcoin futures rose by 1,542 contracts to 22,315. The two groups moved their net exposures in opposite directions, with leveraged funds reducing longs by 800 contracts and adding 799 shorts. Bitcoin was trading near $84,650 with approximately $16.14 billion in 24-hour volume at the time of publication.
