Berkshire CEO Abel says Alphabet a ‘significant player’ in AI after growing stake in Q2

Greg Abel, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, described Google-parent Alphabet as a « significant player » in artificial intelligence. Berkshire initially invested $10 billion in Google 15 months ago at a 6.5% discount. The company added $17 billion of Alphabet shares in the second quarter, bringing its total stake to approximately 106 million shares worth roughly $36.6 billion, making it Berkshire’s third largest equity holding. Investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates global hyperscaler AI capex at around $1 trillion for 2026.
