Australia warns unlicensed crypto firms of fines up to 10% of annual turnover

ASIC (Australian Securities and Investments Commission) has recorded over 45 digital asset-related license applications as the temporary regulatory relief deadline approaches on September 30. Australian crypto firms requiring a financial services license must apply before this date or risk fines of up to 10% of annual turnover, along with civil and criminal penalties. Starting October 1, companies that require authorization but have not met ASIC’s conditions could be in breach of financial services law. This transition relief is separate from Australia’s Digital Asset Framework, which takes effect on April 9, 2027.
