Apple filed a federal lawsuit on July 10, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against OpenAI, its subsidiary io Products, and two individuals, including Chang Liu, a former senior systems electrical engineer at Apple. Liu is accused of exploiting a software bug to access confidential circuit plans and technical specifications weeks after joining OpenAI. Apple claims that more than 400 former Apple employees now work at OpenAI and describes this as evidence of a coordinated recruitment strategy designed to funnel proprietary knowledge out of Cupertino. OpenAI denied the allegations. Apple is seeking injunctions to prevent OpenAI from using the allegedly stolen information.
