Apple Intelligence has received regulatory approval in China, becoming the only foreign generative AI suite authorized to run on iPhones in the country. The approvals came from the Cyberspace Administration of China on July 15, 2026, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on September 29, 2026. Apple plans to launch the features in December 2026 with iOS 27.3 through local partners Alibaba for generative text and image capabilities, and Baidu for search features. iPhone shipments in China grew 24 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, positioning Apple as the number two smartphone vendor in the country behind Huawei.
