Anthropic signs massive cloud deal backed by Nvidia as AI compute race intensifies

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude chatbot, has locked in compute commitments totaling hundreds of billions of dollars. It signed a $45 billion six-year deal with Nscale delivering up to 460 megawatts of power, a $10 billion agreement with Volta Infra Holdings for a cloud facility in Norway, and a $30 billion commitment to Microsoft Azure. In June 2026, Anthropic also secured a $35 billion funding tranche under the AI XPV Platform, co-led by Apollo and Blackstone, earmarked for infrastructure expansion exceeding 1 gigawatt of power capacity. This strategy positions the company for a potential IPO while securing critical compute capacity against competitors.
