Animoca Hits Pause on Reverse Merger – But Its Public Listing Ambitions Aren’t Going Away

Animoca Brands has mutually suspended discussions with Currenc Group over a proposed reverse merger, initially announced on November 3, 2025, citing an incompatible timeline with its short- and medium-term strategic goals. The company published its audited financial statements for fiscal year 2023 on July 17, 2026, and is currently working on fiscal year 2024 statements to meet requirements for a future public listing. Meanwhile, its joint venture Anchorpoint Financial Limited, created with Standard Chartered Bank HK and HKT, obtained one of Hong Kong’s first official stablecoin issuer licenses from the HKMA in April 2026 and launched the Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin HKDAP for institutional investors in August. This decision comes as several major crypto firms, including Kraken’s parent company, Ledger and Grayscale, have also delayed their listing ambitions in 2026.
