Amazon Web Services rebuilt the inference engine behind Amazon Bedrock in just 76 days with a team of six engineers, whereas the project had originally been estimated at 30 to 40 engineers over 12 to 18 months. This performance was made possible by Kiro, Amazon’s agentic AI coding tool, which delivered productivity gains of 10 to 20 times. Bedrock processed more tokens in the first quarter of 2026 than in all previous years combined, with usage nearly doubling in March 2026 alone. The new architecture, called Mantle, is now live and serving production traffic. Andy Jassy cited this project in his 2025 shareholder letter as proof of Amazon’s commitment to AI adoption.
