Amazon stock surges on booming cloud growth, eyes best day in 11 years

Amazon reported Q2 2026 earnings on July 30, with the stock jumping 9% to 14% in after-hours trading, putting it on track for its best single-day performance in roughly a decade. AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue, a 37% year-over-year increase and the strongest growth rate for the cloud division in 18 quarters. Total operating income reached $27.5 billion, up 43% year-over-year. Amazon raised its full-year capital expenditure guidance to $220 billion. CEO Andy Jassy cited elevated enterprise AI spending as the primary driver of the cloud unit’s acceleration during the earnings call.
