Altcoins have taken a leading role in the latest crypto market rally, with trading activity and market capitalization surging alongside Bitcoin’s sharp move higher. The total altcoin market capitalization, measured by Total2 excluding Ethereum, increased by approximately $135 billion in one week. On Binance, which represents nearly 40% of altcoin trading volume across exchanges, these tokens accounted for as much as 65% of total volume at their peak, while Bitcoin made up just 21% and Ethereum accounted for 13.6%. The Altcoin Impulse reading jumped to 93%, with levels above 75% considered overextended, suggesting a potential risk of exhaustion. This shift came after Trump’s announcements on August 19 regarding the US purchasing large amounts of Bitcoin and Congress passing the Clarity Act.
