Alibaba’s open-source AI model family Qwen has reached 3 billion global downloads, accounting for more than 50% of worldwide open-source model downloads. Qwen now outpaces competitors Meta Llama and DeepSeek in the open-source LLM race. Over 200,000 derivative models have been created by developers on Hugging Face, forming a substantial ecosystem around this model family. The upcoming Qwen3.8-Max model, featuring 2.4 trillion parameters designed for coding and agentic tasks, is slated for an open-weight release in August 2026.
