Ledger CTO Charles Guillemet has rejected fears that AI could break Bitcoin’s cryptography in the coming months, stating there is no sign of an imminent breakthrough against the ECDSA algorithm securing Bitcoin transactions. He emphasized that if asymmetric cryptography were broken, Bitcoin would be the least of concerns as Internet security, banking systems, and critical infrastructure would all be compromised. His comments follow warnings from Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake, who believes ECDSA could potentially be broken within months rather than years. Other prominent figures like Vitalik Buterin and Jameson Lopp advise caution without recommending hasty wallet migrations, arguing that theoretical future problems can wait.
