The eCash hard fork occurred at Bitcoin block 973,728, giving holders who controlled their private keys at that time an equivalent balance of ECX. The network uses Drivechains, which enables developers to launch independent sidechains; five have already launched, while the quantum-resistant Photon and decentralized exchange CoinShift are still pending. Holders must use a compatible wallet and secure their ECX before making an unprotected BTC transaction, as transactions could otherwise be replayed on the other network. On November 5, CoinMarketCap priced ECX at $32.63 with roughly $355,000 in 24-hour trading volume, although liquidity and availability on major exchanges remain limited. The project’s eventual value will depend on application adoption, transaction fee revenue and the ability of its sidechains to attract users and miners.
