According to an independent METR assessment published on November 5, 2026, Anthropic’s models are improving about 1.9 times faster than the pace observed between March 2024 and October 2025. This acceleration amounts to two years of progress in a single year. METR attributes roughly 80% of the increase to Anthropic using its own AI systems to accelerate research and development, mainly by assisting human researchers rather than operating fully autonomously. The company’s growing training compute was not identified as the main driver. Future evaluations will test the finding, as the report relies on a single benchmark and an 11-week observation period.
