Kayleen Fulton, former Protocol Support lead at the Ethereum Foundation, is suing the foundation, Vitalik Buterin and others, alleging she was fired after disclosing a cancer diagnosis and organizing opposition to a “suicide pledge.” A draft mandate distributed to employees in February included the “Source Seppuku License,” which required individuals to take their own lives with a sword if they failed to uphold its terms. Fulton claims 79 employees voted to remove the provision, with one citing the suicide of a colleague the previous year, but the published version retained it and was permanently recorded on the Ethereum blockchain. After the foundation insisted that employees either commit to the mandate or be treated as having resigned, Fulton and 53 members of the Protocol cluster wrote to the foundation’s board stating that they had not resigned. Her employment was then terminated, and the foundation did not immediately respond to Protos’s request for comment.
