Zcash co-founder and computer scientist Eli Ben-Sasson warns that the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence pose a major threat to the security of cryptocurrency wallets. He believes this threat could materialize before the one associated with quantum computers, as artificial intelligence tools accelerate the search for vulnerabilities in wallet software and firmware. He therefore calls for stronger cryptographic standards, particularly methods based on hashing, such as ZK-STARKs. This warning follows the Binance hack, which reportedly caused around $6.3 billion in losses, although the exchange says it has recovered nearly 95% of the affected assets. According to Google Threat Intelligence, the monthly number of disclosed software vulnerabilities has nearly doubled over the past year, illustrating attackers’ increasing use of artificial intelligence.
