South Korea may delay crypto tax for Digital Asset Basic Act passage

Share

Kim Min-seok, leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party, has proposed that lawmakers pass the Digital Asset Basic Act before imposing crypto taxes. This would represent the fourth delay of the tax, initially scheduled to take effect in January 2027, which applies a 22% rate to gains exceeding 2.5 million won. The approach could create a more favorable regulatory environment for the sector, but it originated from a Tier 3 social media account and has not been officially confirmed. In prediction markets, the probability of Bitcoin reaching $100,000 by December 31, 2026 is priced at 10%, while the chance of reaching $200,000 remains low.
