OpenAI’s Pando cuts Git push latency by about 80% for its monorepo

OpenAI developed Pando, a custom Git server that cuts the median latency for pushing code to the company’s monorepo by about 80%, nearly a fivefold improvement. Entering production in April 2026 after roughly ten weeks of development, the system was built by one engineer with substantial assistance from Codex agents. Pando serves nearly one petabyte of Git data per day and delivered more than 57 TB of packed Git data in a single hour, with over 99% coming directly from the local disk cache. The infrastructure addresses a 1,378% increase in Codex-driven commits between Q1 2024 and Q3 2026, during which the reliability of traditional Git servers often fell below 90%.
