Strangers are sending sub-dollar Bitcoin payments to the 19 wallets holding the 18,270 BTC stolen from Binance. Each transaction carries a permanent message written to the blockchain through the OP_RETURN function, either begging for a share of the loot or promoting tokens. The 18,270 BTC, valued at about $1.4 billion at the time of the theft, is spread across 19 addresses and has not moved since October 29, 2026. The FBI attributed the attack, which drained roughly $6.3 billion in digital assets in total, to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group. About $3 billion has been frozen, but Bitcoin cannot technically be frozen; Binance is covering customer losses through its SAFU fund and company reserves while withdrawals remain suspended.
