The Bank of Korea has sent its first systematic questionnaire assessing digital-asset risks to 31 South Korean financial institutions, including 18 banks and 13 securities firms. Responses are due by November 4 and cover organizational structures, budgets, staffing and risk-management arrangements. The scenarios examined include the hack or shutdown of a major exchange, a prolonged downturn in the crypto market and heavy losses at another financial institution. The survey is intended to assess how the financial system could absorb shocks and limit risk contagion among banks, brokerages and the crypto market. Its findings could inform future financial-stability reports or regulatory guidance from the central bank.
