Mark Karpeles, the former CEO of Mt. Gox, warned that Trezor hardware wallets sold by Indonesian reseller CryptoBilis may have been physically compromised. He advised customers who bought these devices from March 2026 onward to immediately transfer their cryptocurrency to new wallets with new recovery phrases. Trezor confirmed receiving a credible report of a suspected hardware implant in a Trezor Safe 5 device purchased through the Tokopedia marketplace in Indonesia. The suspect device contained an additional board with a cellular module and an antenna, designed to capture the recovery phrase and transmit the data over a mobile network. Trezor ended its relationship with CryptoBilis and has examined four devices without finding evidence of tampering so far; no customer has reported losing funds in connection with the suspected Trezor device.
