Anthropic filed for an initial public offering on Nasdaq in late October 2026 under the ticker “ANT,” targeting a valuation of between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. In the first half of 2026, the company reported $16.3 billion in revenue, up 1,368% year over year, and a $80.7 billion net loss largely caused by the accounting valuation of its convertible notes. Its registration document devotes about one third of its content to risks, including the possibility that its models could develop self-preserving behavior or resist being shut down. Reuters Breakingviews argues, however, that a more immediate threat could undermine the software business model: AI may enable proprietary applications to be cloned quickly and cheaply, weakening intellectual property protections and exposing Anthropic to legal and competitive pressure.
