An open optimization contest backed by StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation has cut the gas cost of verifying Falcon-512 signatures by nearly half. OpenZeppelin’s initial implementation consumed 48.4 million gas, compared with approximately 25.9 million for the leading result. At recent STRK token prices, this equates to about $0.023 per verification, versus $0.06 for a complete account transfer conducted in July 2026. That earlier test was experimental and unaudited, while the new record remains a contest optimization that will require rigorous review before protecting real funds. Falcon-512 signatures complement Starknet’s STARK-proof architecture, which secures network computations but does not replace the signatures used by user accounts.
