The management committee of Weil, Gotshal & Manges has recommended that the firm’s partners wind down its operations. The recommendation follows an exodus of partners and the reported end of talks with Willkie Farr & Gallagher about a potential merger days earlier. The firm had about 1,200 lawyers and reportedly generated more than $2 billion in revenue in 2025 across its multinational operations. Partners are expected to vote on the recommendation in the coming days, while the firm will continue serving clients during the wind-down process. Weil, Gotshal & Manges has been involved in major bankruptcy proceedings, including those of Lehman Brothers, General Motors and Enron.
