Stellar unveiled a fee-free network that reached 7.02 million payments per second in internal tests conducted across eight machines grouped within a single validator. The test measures the capacity of one well-equipped system, rather than the throughput of a global network made up of independent validators, and the results have not yet been published for external verification. Stellar’s main network, where fees were around $0.00012 during peak activity, processed approximately 14.16 million transactions on October 23, 2026, averaging 163.9 transactions per second. The foundation has not yet decided how the new system will relate to the existing Stellar blockchain, whether as an extension, a parallel network or a separate architecture, nor has it specified the mechanism that would replace fees in preventing spam and compensating the network.
