Itaú Unibanco notified the Central Bank of Brazil on October 27, 2026, formalizing its crypto trading and custody operations. The filing, made ahead of the October 30, 2026 regulatory deadline, allows the bank to use a simplified process reserved for already authorized financial institutions. Its service covers 15 digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the USDC stablecoin, with a minimum investment of 10 Brazilian reais. Customers can also entrust the bank with asset custody. Itaú has not disclosed how many customers use the service or how much they trade, even though Brazilians transacted 505.5 billion reais in digital assets in 2025, according to tax authority data.
