Chris Gober, the former director and top lawyer for Elon Musk’s America PAC, is running for the U.S. House in Texas’ 10th District, a safe Republican seat where he faces Democrat Caitlin Rourk. The district contains several Musk-linked interests, including the Terafab artificial intelligence chip factory being built by Tesla and SpaceX and the offices of The Boring Company in Pflugerville. SpaceX’s political action committee donated $10,000 to Gober’s campaign, whose website recently removed a section on ensuring U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence. Rourk accuses Gober of serving Musk’s interests, while he says he will make decisions based on what is best for his constituents and denies that his campaign is hiding his connection to the billionaire. A Verasight survey of 2,000 U.S. adults found that 74% of Democrats view Musk unfavorably, compared with 53% of independents and 17% of Republicans.
