Marc Lore’s Wonder bets on Texas, automation and user-built restaurants as it mulls IPO

Founded in 2018 by Marc Lore, Wonder operates 170 locations across the United States and targets at least 100 sites in Texas by the end of 2027, alongside further national expansion. Valued at $9 billion after raising $3.3 billion, the platform plans to automate its kitchens and delivery gradually, aiming for fully autonomous operations by 2040. Starting November 17, Wonder Create will allow influencers, entrepreneurs and brands to create a restaurant within its locations for $10 a month, with artificial intelligence assistance. Following its acquisitions of Grubhub and Blue Apron, the company reportedly operates at a loss, but says it has achieved higher customer retention and higher weighted average lifetime value than Cava and Sweetgreen, while a potential IPO remains without a confirmed timetable.
