Broadridge’s distributed-ledger DLR platform processed an average of $359 billion in repo transactions per day in September 2026, or $7.5 trillion for the month. It enables banks to arrange intraday loans, transfer collateral more efficiently and synchronize payments, while cash continues to move through traditional payment systems. According to published estimates, the technology could reduce banks’ liquidity buffers by 8% to 17%, while Société Générale eliminated nearly $1 million in annual operating costs. It does not, however, eliminate liquidity risk or repo financing terms: a higher haircut reduces the cash advanced, and failure to renew a loan may force institutions to find funding elsewhere. The modernization is also taking place ahead of central-clearing requirements, with the deadline for eligible repo transactions set for June 30, 2027.
