Ireland’s central bank fined Coinbase Ireland €3,252,618 for breaches of rules on safeguarding funds linked to electronic-money services and overseeing outsourced arrangements. The violations, which the company admitted, covered 2020 to 2025 and included maintaining insufficient balances in designated safeguarding accounts, as well as governance and outsourcing obligations. The initial sanction of €4,646,597 was reduced by 30% under the regulator’s settlement-discount scheme. It still requires confirmation by the Irish High Court. The decision does not report a €3.25 million customer loss, as the amount is a fine, and does not indicate that Coinbase’s blockchain suffered a security breach.
