Solana and Anza proposed an adaptation of Alpenglow, called Quantumglow, on October 22 to protect the network against quantum computer threats. The upgrade would replace the validators’ BLS signatures with hash-based signatures and the ED25519 signatures used by wallets and applications with Falcon, while preserving transaction finality of 0.15 seconds. However, Solana and Anza have not set a deadline for the transition, and the platform currently retains an “F” rating for post-quantum readiness. According to the article, $2.7 trillion, or 99.7% of the crypto market, remains vulnerable to such threats.
