US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has barred all Pentagon personnel from using nonpublic information, whether classified or unclassified, to wager on upcoming military action. The prohibition covers betting on prediction market platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket. Hegseth said adversaries monitor activity in these markets and that disclosure of operational information could endanger US service members. The directive follows the indictment of US Army soldier Gannon Ken Van Dyke, who allegedly used classified information about the operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro to make more than $400,000 on Polymarket; he has pleaded not guilty. In Israel, a military reservist and a civilian were also arrested and indicted over alleged use of classified information to bet on Israeli strikes against Iran.
