Solana is approaching its Alpenglow consensus upgrade scheduled for October 21, targeting transaction finality of approximately 150 milliseconds, compared to the current multi-second finality. This upgrade would replace the network’s existing consensus approach with a redesigned system. Alpenglow also changes validator voting mechanics by shifting much of the vote overhead away from ordinary user transactions. The underlying code was developed by Anza and went through a public security review process with a dedicated bug bounty competition. For users, the promise is a faster confirmation experience, provided the network remains dependable during the transition.
