Online lender LightStream, a division of Truist Bank based in New York, has stopped accepting new loan applications following the sale of $7.7 billion in unsecured personal loans to Carlyle Group, a private equity firm. Launched in 2013, LightStream offered fixed-rate personal loans ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 for borrowers with good credit. Customers with an active LightStream loan can still manage their account, but the origination platform will be retired. Truist will continue offering unsecured personal loans through other channels, including its phone line and branch locations. The article suggests six alternatives: SoFi, Citibank, Rocket Loans, Upstart, U.S. Bank and PenFed Credit Union.
