Samsung is accelerating the expansion of its semiconductor complex in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, to capture surging demand driven by artificial intelligence. The company is restarting construction on its fifth fab (P5), shifting NAND lines to DRAM production, and targeting a capacity of 100,000 to 120,000 wafers per month by Q1 2027 on the P4 dedicated DRAM line. The server DRAM shortage, particularly DDR5 with premiums reaching 70%, has enabled Samsung to post record operating profit exceeding 100 trillion won in Q3 2026. The company also plans a 360 trillion won investment for a new six-fab cluster in Yongin, with the first fab expected in 2029.
