Echo Protocol halts new deposits and borrowing as it winds down

Share

Echo Protocol, the Bitcoin-focused DeFi service on the Aptos blockchain, has halted new deposits, new borrowing, and interest accrual as it winds down operations launched in late 2024. The protocol announced its shutdown on October 19, 2026, citing necessary business adjustments after nearly two years of operation. Borrowers must repay by November 14, 2026 to avoid collateral liquidation, while other users have until November 19, 2026 at 23:59 UTC to withdraw funds and unstake positions. The May 2026 exploit, in which roughly $76 million in fake tokens were minted but only around $816,000 was actually extracted, may have contributed to the closure, though Echo has not officially confirmed this link. The Aptos-to-B² bridge for aBTC redemptions will remain available after the full protocol shutdown.
