Violences du 17 octobre : Attal veut pouvoir couper les reseaux sociaux

Share

Gabriel Attal proposes to temporarily and selectively block access to platforms such as TikTok, X or Snapchat during riots to stop mob mentality. In May 2024, however, the Conseil d’Etat ruled the TikTok shutdown in New Caledonia illegal, considering it a disproportionate attack on freedom of expression. Former national police director Frederic Pechenard also called for the development of artificial intelligence on surveillance cameras and access to encrypted messaging apps such as WhatsApp or Signal. The RIPOST law, promulgated in August 2025, extended the algorithmic video surveillance experiment until December 31, 2030. The role of foreign powers, notably Iran, Algeria and Russia, in amplifying the October 17 violence is under investigation, but these suspicions remain to be confirmed.
