“Checkmate Satoshi?” Adam Back Reacts to Ledger Cofounder’s Take on AI’s ECDSA Findings

Artificial intelligence Claude discovered in under thirty minutes that the origins of NIST curves P-192, P-224, P-256, P-384, and P-521 came not from a hash algorithm but from a 1990s lrand48 random-number generator seeded with a Unix timestamp. This revelation dispels a 26-year suspicion that the NSA might have hidden a backdoor in these cryptographic parameters. Ledger co-founder Nicolas Bacca commented on this discovery with a playful “Checkmate Satoshi” on X, suggesting that Satoshi Nakamoto’s historical choice of secp256k1 over P-256 in Bitcoin may have been unjustified. Blockstream CEO Adam Back criticized the NSA for never revealing reproducible steps to generate these published curves.
