Visa Direct Puts USDC Prefunding Live 24/7 Through Inyo Global

Share

Visa Direct is moving USDC prefunding out of the pilot phase and into commercial production, with Inyo Global as the first processor to offer the service in live conditions. The change lets businesses fund outbound payments in the stablecoin around the clock, weekends included. It is a concrete step: a dollar-pegged stablecoin is now embedded in the workflow of one of the largest payment networks, well beyond crypto exchanges.

๐Ÿ”‘ In brief

  • Visa Direct moves USDC prefunding into commercial production, with Inyo Global as the first processor to offer it.
  • Prefunding runs 24/7, no longer tied to bank opening hours or cutoffs.
  • Pilots began in September 2025; a Visa-Lloyds test settled $750,000 in payment obligations over seven days.
  • USDC prefunding sits alongside Mastercard Send and local banks rather than replacing them.

From pilot to production: the rollout timeline

On October 15, 2026, Visa said its USDC prefunding service (USDC is a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar) would move from an experimental phase into a commercial offer for eligible clients. Inyo Global is the first processor to offer the feature in live conditions, according to multiple consistent reports. The announcement closes a sequence of work that began in 2025 and accelerated over the summer of 2026.

The trajectory is consistent: Visa has moved from limited tests to live flows, progressively widening its partner base and the types of transactions involved. The Lloyds test is especially telling because it covered genuine payment obligations rather than demonstration transfers. According to both companies, funds reached Visa in less than an hour, including over the weekend, a timing profile that contrasts with the usual delays of bank-based settlement.

Prefunding: the overlooked friction in cross-border payments

Prefunding (setting aside liquidity before funds can be sent to beneficiaries) is one of the least visible costs in cross-border payments. A provider must hold balances in every currency and in every market where it operates, which immobilises capital. Traditionally, cutoffs (daily deadlines set by banks for processing transfers) confined these operations to banking hours. A continuously available stablecoin rail changes that constraint: firms can top up as needed instead of forecasting balances around the banking calendar.

What continuous availability changes

  • Lighter prefunding balances, since top-ups can happen on demand.
  • Shorter periods during which liquidity sits idle between banking windows.
  • Possible execution over weekends and holidays, when traditional rails are closed.

Vira Platonova, Global Head of Visa Direct, framed the announcement as the move from experimentation to actual usage:

“The next chapter for stablecoins is adoption. Over the last few years, we’ve worked with a number of partners and clients to explore how these technologies can improve money movement. We’re now seeing those efforts turn into live implementations, helping businesses access more flexible and efficient ways to fund and move money globally through Visa Direct, starting with Inyo Global as the first facilitator.”

Inyo Global: regulated infrastructure for money transmitters

Inyo Global describes its platform as a unified ecosystem for payment processing, cross-border transfers and stablecoin infrastructure, accessible via API. It belongs to the Inyo group, whose entities specialise in payment processing, money services and stablecoin infrastructure. The company is licensed in all 50 US states and registered with FinCEN (the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the US Treasury unit that oversees anti-money-laundering rules) for its regulated money transmission activities. Its stablecoin compliance entity, InyoX, manages the regulatory requirements specific to each jurisdiction.

On coverage, the platform gives clients access to more than 180 countries for domestic and international payouts through Visa Direct. USDC prefunding does not replace other rails; it sits alongside Mastercard Send and local banks. Services include user onboarding, fraud and compliance management, and payment acceptance.

Robson Dantas, co-founder and chief product and technology officer at Inyo Global, focused on the customer experience:

“Innovation in money movement ultimately means building a better experience for customers, and that is exactly our focus at Inyo. By integrating Visa Direct’s stablecoin-powered prefunding into the Inyo platform, we are giving the money transmitters, fintechs and payment companies we serve a new way to fund their payouts, available 24 hours a day and running through the same Inyo APIs they already use.”

What it means for liquidity at transmitters and fintechs

For money transmitters and fintechs, the change is first about liquidity management. Until now, providers had to anticipate funding needs around banking hours, which often meant holding larger buffers to cover closed periods. With prefunding available around the clock, they can run leaner balances and replenish as needed.

According to the companies, the operational flow works as follows:

  1. Integrate USDC prefunding through the Inyo APIs the provider already uses.
  2. Top up USDC balances according to expected payout volumes.
  3. Send Visa Direct payouts to eligible beneficiaries, within applicable geographic limits.

For USDC, the significance extends beyond crypto trading venues. By embedding the stablecoin in the workflow of a major payment network, Visa places it at the core of conventional payment operations. The volumes involved have not been disclosed, so the real scale of this adoption remains to be measured.

The rollout remains conditional. Availability depends on client eligibility and geographic restrictions, according to the press materials. A gradual ramp-up is therefore expected, and processed volumes, not yet published, will be the key indicator to watch. Vira Platonova is also scheduled to discuss these developments at several sessions of Money20/20 USA the following week.

Outlook: stablecoins move closer to the payments core

Visa Direct’s move into production with Inyo Global is a concrete milestone. A dollar-pegged stablecoin is now used as a prefunding tool within a global payment network, with settlement timing reported under one hour in the Lloyds test. For the crypto industry, this is a meaningful signal of integration into traditional financial infrastructure.

Three scenarios stand out. In the base case, USDC prefunding gradually widens its geographic coverage and partner base as early live flows prove reliable. In a cautious case, growth stays constrained by client eligibility and by the regulatory requirements of each jurisdiction. In an upside case, other large payment networks adopt comparable mechanisms, strengthening the role of stablecoins in cross-border flows. Published volume data will be the clearest way to tell these trajectories apart.
